چکیده

First introduced in 1992 like a method to replace a damaged hepatic artery during major hepatobiliary surgery, Portal Vein arterialization (PVA) is becoming now a method to rescue the grafts in the field of liver transplantation, when an arterial thrombosis occur, and there are no alternative ways to restore the arterial flow. Moreover there are a lot of experimental studies showing that PVA has a beneficial effect in many pathologic situation, like it is, for example, in the toxic liver or when there is a small remnant after resection. We report a case in which PVA was used in a patient with acute hepatic failure from toxic liver.

Partial Portal Vein Arterialization Attenuates Acute Bile Duct Injury Induced by Hepatic Dearterialization in a Rat Model

Hepatic infarcts or abscesses occur after hepatic artery interruption. We explored the mechanisms of hepatic deprivation-induced acute liver injury and determine whether partial portal vein arterialization attenuated this injury in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent either complete hepatic arterial deprivation or partial portal vein arterialization, or both. Hepatic ischemia was evaluated...

A case of portal vein arterialization after a liver transplant.

Hepatic artery thrombosis represents a potentially deadly complication after a liver transplant. Portal vein arterialization recently has been proposed as a bridge approach in patients with hepatic artery thrombosis needing a retransplant. We report the case of a 53-year-old man treated with a liver transplant for a cryptogenetic cirrhosis. One month after a liver transplant, a hepatic artery t...

Partial portal arterialization for hepatic arterial thrombosis after living-donor liver transplant.

OBJECTIVES The most serious, life-threatening complication after living-donor liver transplant is a hepatic arterial thrombosis. Although possible therapies for acute hepatic arterial thrombosis include revascularization to salvage the graft, or retransplant, these may be difficult to perform owing to technical aspects and donor shortages. Previously, we reported the usefulness of partial porta...

Pancreaticoduodenectomy assisted by 3-D visualization reconstruction and portal vein arterialization

BACKGROUND Three-dimensional visualization reconstruction, the 3-D visualization model reconstructed by software using 2-D CT images, has been widely applied in medicine; but it has rarely been applied in pancreaticoduodenectomy. Although the hepatic artery is very important for the liver, it has to be removed when tumor invades it. Therefore, portal vein arterialization has been used in clinic...

Visualization of segmental arterialization with arrival time parametric imaging using Sonazoid-enhanced ultrasonography in portal vein thrombosis: A case report

A 55-year-old male was admitted in mid-April 2011 with a fever of >39°C and pain in the lower right abdomen. A medical examination revealed sepsis originating from colonic diverticulitis. Abdominal B-mode ultrasonography (US) performed on admission detected thrombi in the superior mesenteric vein and in the right branch of the hepatic portal vein. Arrival time parametric imaging (At-PI) using S...
